Good to know
India is on Ecuador's list of 'Países de Régimen Especial' whose nationals need a tourist visa before arrival (MREMH gob.ec trámite page; the same list is on the Cancillería page 'https://www.cancilleria.gob.ec/2020/06/30/lista-de-paises-que-deben-presentar-visa-al-ingresar-al-ecuador/', which names 'India' and 'República Popular China'). Apply online only, via e-VISAS (serviciosdigitales.cancilleria.gob.ec): fees USD 50 application + USD 30 issuance, no VAT. The visa gives 'un periodo de noventa (90) días contados a partir del ingreso'. Requirements per the gob.ec page: passport valid at least six months; criminal-record certificate (over-18s) from country of origin or countries of residence in the last five years, translated and apostilled/legalised, issued no more than 180 days before the last entry; proof of lawful means of subsistence (Acuerdo Ministerial 70/2024); travel itinerary with outbound and return tickets; photo. Extension: a 'visa de visitante temporal prórroga turista' (another 90 days, same e-VISAS process, USD 50 + USD 30) can be requested once the initial 90 days are ending (gob.ec trámite 'Concesión de visa de visitante temporal prórroga turista'; note that page's own country list is older and omits China). LOMH Art. 56 (as reformed 24-X-2025) also lets Ecuador accept a tourist or residence visa from designated third countries for entry, but only as set by secondary rules — no such rule covering this nationality was found, so do not rely on a third-country visa. Transit: LOMH Art. 66(9) (re-added by the 24-X-2025 reform after the Constitutional Court struck down an earlier version, Sentencia 51-25-IN/25) creates a 'visa de transeúnte' for transiting Ecuador, for nationalities the authority designates; which nationalities it currently covers was not verified, so check before a connection through Ecuador. Overstay (LOMH Art. 169, falta migratoria leve 2.b): a tourist who stays past the authorised 90 days without an extension, past 180 days with one, or past 180 days when admitted for 180, is fined one 'remuneración básica unificada' (one Ecuadorian basic monthly wage). Health insurance: since the 2021 reform the LOMH (Art. 52) only says residents must hold public or private health insurance; no general insurance requirement for mainland tourists appears in the consolidated law. Galápagos (per UK FCDO and Global Affairs Canada travel advice, not an Ecuadorian page we could load): tourists may stay up to 60 days (Canada: '60 days in a 1-year period'); you need a Transit Control Card bought at Quito or Guayaquil airport before check-in, a return ticket to the mainland, proof of a hotel booking or host invitation, and (UK) travel health insurance. The Galápagos national-park entry fee is not stated here because no official Ecuadorian source for it could be loaded. Land arrivals: Global Affairs Canada (updated 2026-10-09) says travellers entering by land or river must present an apostilled criminal-record check covering the past five years (with a Spanish translation); minors travelling with family are generally exempt. Customs: you must file the online Formulario de Registro Aduanero (FRA) only if you bring taxable goods or USD 10,000+ in cash/bearer instruments (SENAE).
