Short answerIndian citizens need a visa to visit the Bahamas. Your visa sets how long you can stay.

How long you can stay
Your visa sets how long you can stay.
What you need
  • Bahamian visa obtained before travel — OR a valid US/UK/Canada/Schengen visa or permanent-residence document that qualifies for the waiver
  • Passport valid for at least 6 months
  • Return ticket or other means of departing The Bahamas
  • Proof of sufficient funds (or local sponsor)
  • Completed Bahamas Immigration Disembarkation/Embarkation Card
Good to know
Visa required, with exemptions. Bahamas Immigration 'Before Your Arrival' (2026-08-10) lists India among 'Countries that require Bahamian Visa'. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists add: 'Indian Nationals who have visas for, or permanent resident status in, US, UK, Canada and Schengen countries do not require a visa to enter The Bahamas ... All other Indian nationals require visas.' The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism site gives the durations of that waiver: with a visa issued by Canada, the UK, the USA or a Schengen state — maximum stay 90 days; with a UK or Schengen permanent residence permit — 90 days; with a US Permanent Resident Card (I-551) — 30 days; with a Canadian Permanent Resident Card — 30 days. Conflict noted: the MOFA eVISA page's visa-required list (modified 2026-04-01) omits India, while the Immigration list and MOFA's 'Who needs visas' page include it with the waiver — we treat the Immigration list plus the MOFA waiver as controlling. Without a qualifying visa/residence, apply for a Bahamian visa in advance (MOFA eVISA; Bahamian Consulate in New Delhi is a processing centre). Bahamas Immigration 'Before Your Arrival' (updated 2026-08-10) sets the entry criteria under the Immigration Act (Ch. 191) s.22: a valid return ticket/means of departure, no intention to work, financial means (or a local sponsor), a passport valid for at least six months (passport cards not accepted) and a completed Disembarkation/Embarkation Card. 'Admittance is not automatic' — the officer can refuse leave to land. The officer also decides how long you may stay; the period is documented in your passport ('the maximum period of stay, documented in visitors' passports, may vary, as this is dependent upon the discretion of the immigration officer at the port of entry'), and the absolute maximum for a visitor is 8 months. Extensions: apply to the Department of Immigration before the granted time expires; in-person interview with an extension officer; $200.00 non-refundable processing fee since 18 September 2024; bring return ticket, valid passport, local address, the Immigration landing card, reason for extension, sponsor's passport and address (Immigration 'Extension of Stay' page). Overstaying is a punishable offence. Yellow fever certificate required from travellers over 1 year arriving from (or transiting more than 12 hours through) a listed risk country (including Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Kenya and others), vaccinated at least 10 days before entry.
