What you need
  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from arrival (a national ID card is also accepted for tourism — see notes)
  • Tourist visa bought on arrival at an Egyptian international airport (single entry US$30, cash), or an e-Visa obtained in advance at visa2egypt.gov.eg (printed)
  • Travel itinerary and hotel booking details
Good to know
The Egypt e-Visa Portal (Ministry of Interior, visa2egypt.gov.eg/eVisa/FAQ, checked 2026-10-02) lists Germany among nationalities eligible for an e-Visa (tourism: single entry US$30, multiple entries US$65; passport valid 6 months from arrival). On arrival: the German Foreign Office says the visa on arrival costs US$30 for a single entry, paid at official bank counters before border control; since 1 September 2026 Cairo airport issues a digital QR-code visa instead of a sticker (US$36 in cash at bank counters, or by card at self-service terminals) (legal source). German nationals may also enter with a Personalausweis valid 6 months; bring two biometric photos — the visa goes on a separate sheet that must be kept for the whole stay (per the German Foreign Office). No fixed day count is published here: Egypt's own portal does not state the permitted stay, and EU governments describe it differently (30 days for NL/ES, 'one month' for FR, 28 days for IT, not stated by DE) — check the date on the visa you are given. Working, including journalism, is not allowed on a tourist visa.
