What you need
  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from arrival (a national ID card is also accepted for tourism — see notes)
  • Tourist visa bought on arrival at an Egyptian international airport (single entry US$30, cash), or an e-Visa obtained in advance at visa2egypt.gov.eg (printed)
  • Travel itinerary and hotel booking details
Good to know
The Egypt e-Visa Portal (Ministry of Interior, visa2egypt.gov.eg/eVisa/FAQ, checked 2026-10-02) lists Italy among nationalities eligible for an e-Visa (tourism: single entry US$30, multiple entries US$65; passport valid 6 months from arrival). On arrival: Italian travel advice says the tourist visa can be obtained on arrival at Egyptian airports for a maximum stay of 28 days, paid in cash (legal source). For tourism only, Italian nationals may also enter with an electronic ID card valid for travel abroad and for more than 6 months (per Italian travel advice); bring passport photos. No fixed day count is published here: Egypt's own portal does not state the permitted stay, and EU governments describe it differently (30 days for NL/ES, 'one month' for FR, 28 days for IT, not stated by DE) — check the date on the visa you are given. Working, including journalism, is not allowed on a tourist visa.
