Short answerItalian citizens need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) before travelling to Australia. Up to 90 days per visit.

How long you can stay
Up to 90 days per visit.
What you need
  • Valid passport from Italy (an eVisitor-eligible country)
  • eVisitor (subclass 651) granted before travel — apply online while outside Australia
Good to know
Italy is on Home Affairs' eVisitor (subclass 651) eligible-passport list. The eVisitor is free, multiple entry, and valid for 12 months from grant; you can stay up to 3 months after each entry. Classified as eta_required for consistency with the existing Australian ETA (subclass 601) rows: both are electronic authorisations granted before travel with no embassy application, even though Australian law treats both as visas. Home Affairs states the stay as '3 months' (not a day count) — maxDays: 90 is the same day-equivalent used for the ETA rows. You must be outside Australia when you apply and when it is decided.
