Good to know
Viaggiare Sicuri (Giappone, updated 1/4/2026): Italian citizens are visa-exempt when travelling to Japan for tourism and staying for at most 90 days in every 180 days; stays over 90 days need a visa. This row follows Italy's wording. Japan's own visa-exemption list (MOFA) and its embassies could not be checked — every mofa.go.jp and emb-japan.go.jp page returns HTTP 403 from this environment — and Japan generally frames the exemption as a 90-day period of stay; the 90-in-180 rule here is the stricter reading, not a looser one.
