Short answerChinese citizens need a visa to visit Japan. Your visa sets how long you can stay.

How long you can stay
Your visa sets how long you can stay.
What you need
  • Valid Chinese passport
  • Completed Japanese visa application form
  • Passport-size photo
  • Travel itinerary and flight/hotel bookings
  • Proof of sufficient funds / financial guarantor documents
  • Visa issued in advance by a Japanese Embassy/Consulate (or via an authorized Chinese travel agency for group/package tourist visas)
Good to know
Japan does NOT unilaterally exempt Chinese passport holders from visas, unlike many Western nationalities. China is absent from MOFA's official 74-country/region short-term visa exemption list. Chinese tourists must obtain a visa in advance (individual tourist visa or, historically, visas processed through MOFA-designated travel agencies for group tours); there is no self-service visa-free or eTA stay to display.
