Short answerChinese citizens need a visa to visit Chile. Your visa sets how long you can stay.

How long you can stay
Your visa sets how long you can stay.
What you need
  • Chilean Permanencia Transitoria (tourist) visa obtained from a Chilean consulate through the Sistema de Atención Consular (tramites.minrel.gov.cl) — unless exempt (see notes)
  • Passport valid for the whole intended stay
  • Proof of sufficient means of support for the stay, if asked
  • Joint Aduana–SAG sworn declaration (Declaración Jurada) on arrival
Good to know
Chile's Foreign Ministry visa table (PDF created 6 March 2026) lists CHINA, REPÚBLICA POPULAR as 'SI' (visa de permanencia transitoria required), with a listed fee of US$0 for both the single-entry and multiple-entry visa and a maximum stay of 90 days on each. Exemption (footnote [6]): Chinese nationals holding a visa issued by Canada or the USA (all types except C or transit visas) or a US Green Card, 'con a lo menos 6 meses de vigencia', have been exempt since 1 April 2019 — in that case entry is visa-free on the normal Permanencia Transitoria (up to 90 days). Applications are made through the consular platform (SAC) per consulado.gob.cl 'Información sobre visas para ingresar a Chile'. Stay is set by the visa (up to 90 days per the table), so no automatic duration is modelled. General rules (Servicio Nacional de Migraciones, 'Permanencia Transitoria', updated 14 Oct 2025): visitors enter as holders of a Permanencia Transitoria permit, which allows a stay 'por hasta 90 días' and cannot run past the validity of the travel document; the PDI (Policía de Investigaciones) records the permitted period on the Tarjeta Única Migratoria (TUM) at entry; visitors must have 'los medios económicos suficientes para sustentar su estadía' and may not do paid work. Extension (SERMIG 'Prórroga de Permanencia Transitoria', updated 30 Jun 2026): 'hasta noventa días corridos', 'por una sola vez', applied for online in SERMIG's Portal de Trámites Digitales before the period on your TUM expires; fee USD 100 (children and adolescents exempt); you must show means of support for the extension period and explain the reasons. Arrival: the joint Aduana–SAG sworn declaration form states 'ESTA DECLARACIÓN DEBE SER LLENADA POR TODA PERSONA QUE INGRESE AL PAÍS' (adults 18+ sign and include minors' baggage); see the customs rows. The table's 'plazo máximo estadía' is the stay allowed on the permit; the 30/60/90-day figures are stated as days, not months.

Is your passport valid long enough?

The rule: Passport valid for the whole intended stay
