Overstaying in Norway: fine, entry ban and enforcement

This is what Norway's own national law adds on top of the EU-wide entry-ban mechanism — every Schengen country runs that same baseline process, explained on the general overstay-penalties page, but the fine amount and exact enforcement style are set by each country individually.

Fine

Norway does not impose fines for Immigration Act violations, per the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration's own definitions

Entry ban

2, 5 or 10 years, or permanent, applied Schengen-wide

How it's enforced in practice

Expulsion is specifically considered for overstays of 30 or more days for third-country nationals. The ban must be formally lifted before re-entry becomes possible again. Norway is Schengen-associated but not an EU member (EFTA/EEA), so this is sourced from Norway's own immigration authority rather than an EU directive.

This is informational only, not legal advice — consult a qualified adviser if you're facing an actual return decision or entry ban.
