In short

Wrong EES record from a crossing in Norway — a missing exit or a false overstay? You have the right to get it corrected. Here's who to write to, and a letter you can send.

Full contact details, data protection officer and complaints

Norwegian Police Directorate (Politidirektoratet) — the designated EES data controller, which handles requests to access or correct your EES record under Art. 52 of Regulation (EU) 2017/2226. Supervisory authority: Datatilsynet (Norwegian Data Protection Authority), which under Art. 53(2) must, upon request, assist and advise you, and receives complaints. (Schengen-associated state applying the EES.)

Use the police form 'Request for Rectification, Erasure, and Restriction of Processing of Personal Data in the Border and Territorial Control Register and/or Entry/Exit System (EES)' and send it by post to Øst Police District, Postboks 3390, 1402 Ski. The police ask you not to send it by email, because email is often unencrypted.

The police publish the rectification form in English and Norwegian; we provide the template in Norwegian (Bokmål) and English.

The procedure

  1. Gather your proof

Boarding passes, tickets, accommodation and payment records showing where you were.
  2. Fill in a letter

Use a template below: say which record is wrong and what the correct facts are.
  3. Send it

To the authority above — or to any other EES country if that's easier. You don't have to use Norway.
  4. Note the date

They must reply within 45 days. No answer or a refusal? You can complain to the data protection authority.
If they refuse or don't answer

Action or complaint before the competent authorities or courts (Art. 54), including when the 45-day deadline passes unanswered; the supervisory authority's assistance remains available throughout (Art. 54(2)).
