Overstaying in Belgium: fine, entry ban and enforcement

This is what Belgium's own national law adds on top of the EU-wide entry-ban mechanism — every Schengen country runs that same baseline process, explained on the general overstay-penalties page, but the fine amount and exact enforcement style are set by each country individually.

Fine

EUR 200 flat administrative fine, due immediately at the border (foreigners) or on the territory (EU citizens without valid documents)

Entry ban

1–5 years (Aliens Act Art. 74/11), applied Schengen-wide at the Immigration Office's discretion

How it's enforced in practice

Legal basis is Arts. 4bis, 41, 41bis, 42, 42quinquies of the Belgian Aliens Act (in force since 24 July 2016). The fine and the entry ban are separate consequences — paying the fine doesn't avoid a ban being issued.
