Short answerUS citizens need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) before travelling to Vietnam. Up to 90 days per visit.

How long you can stay
Up to 90 days per visit.
What you need
  • Passport valid at least 6 months beyond entry with a blank page
  • Approved Vietnam e-visa (applied at evisa.gov.vn / thithucdientu.gov.vn)
  • Digital or printed copy of the e-visa approval letter
  • Passport-style digital photo and passport biodata scan (uploaded during application)
  • Return/onward flight ticket (may be requested)
Good to know
US citizens are not on Vietnam's unilateral visa-exemption list and must obtain an e-visa before travel. E-visa is valid up to 90 days and can be single or multiple entry (choice made and paid for at application; government fee historically USD 25 single-entry / USD 50 multiple-entry). Entry allowed at any of Vietnam's designated international air, land and sea checkpoints.

Is your passport valid long enough?

The rule: Passport valid at least 6 months beyond entry with a blank page

These dates stay in your browser. They aren't saved or sent anywhere. Six months from arrival, or after you leave? How the rules compare
