Short answerUS citizens can get a visa on arrival in Jordan. The official source doesn't state a fixed stay length. Check it before you travel.

How long you can stay
The official source doesn't state a fixed stay length. Check it before you travel.
What you need
  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival
  • Visa on arrival (JOD 40 single entry) or a Ministry of Interior e-visa obtained in advance (mandatory in advance if entering via King Hussein/Allenby Bridge)
  • Police registration within 14 days if staying more than 14 days (since 1 October 2025; JOD 200 fine if missed)
Good to know
Permitted length of stay is not stated by any Jordanian authority we could read: the Ministry of Interior's fee table lists visa VALIDITY tiers (3 months single entry JOD 40, 3 months double JOD 60, 6 months multiple JOD 120, 1 year, 5 years), not a stay length, and traveller governments disagree (Japan MOFA: 90-day stay permit; UK: visa 'valid for 3 months'; France and Spain: 1 month). We therefore show no day count — the stay is whatever your visa states; confirm at the border. US-specific: the Ministry of Interior e-visa fee table lists a 5-year multiple-entry visa for US nationals at JOD 110 (instead of JOD 350). travel.state.gov was blocked (Cloudflare) so the US State Department page could not be read. None of this passport's country appears on Jordan's Ministry of Interior list of 'restricted' nationalities that need prior approval (the list covers 14 Asian, 37 African and 2 Latin American states — Belize and Cuba; page footer 'Last update: 09/11/2025'), so no prior approval is needed. Visa on arrival: the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' official Jordan Pass FAQ says non-restricted nationalities get a visa on arrival at Queen Alia International Airport and Sheikh Hussein Bridge (Jordan River crossing); at Wadi Araba (Eilat–Aqaba) it says a visa on arrival is given only to Jordan Pass holders who stay at least 2 nights, and that non-restricted nationals arriving at Aqaba airport need no visa (Aqaba Special Economic Zone). Several travellers' governments (UK, Canada, Germany, Spain) say no visa is issued on arrival at King Hussein/Allenby Bridge — get the e-visa first if you enter there. Optional e-visa in advance via the Ministry of Interior portal (eservices.moi.gov.jo). Ministry of Interior e-visa fees: 3 months single entry JOD 40; 3 months double entry JOD 60; 6 months multiple JOD 120; 1 year multiple JOD 200; 5 years multiple JOD 350. Visa fee waiver: the Jordan Pass (JOD 70–80, sold only at jordanpass.jo) waives the single-entry visa fee if you buy it before arrival and stay at least 2 consecutive nights (3 days); if you leave sooner you pay the fee on departure. Stay: the Ministry of Interior lists the standard single-entry visa as '3 months' (that is the visa's validity, not a stated stay). CONFLICT: Jordan's own Jordan Pass FAQ (© 2022) and the French (updated 15 Sep 2026) and Spanish (31 Mar 2026) travel advice still describe a 1-month/30-day initial stay extendable at a police station, while UK, Canada and Japan advice describe 3 months/90 days — check the period stamped in your passport on arrival. Stays over 14 days: since 1 October 2025 visitors staying more than 14 days must register at a police station within 14 days of arrival (biometrics), or pay a JOD 200 fine on departure; exemptions differ between sources (France, Netherlands and Spain say Jordan Pass/tourist visa, transit and Hajj visa holders are exempt; the UK says tourists are exempt). Passport must be valid at least 6 months on arrival. Land-border departure tax: UK advice says JOD 10 in cash at all land crossings (France says JOD 8).

The rule: Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival
