Peru entry requirements for US citizens

Short answerUS citizens can visit Peru without a visa. Up to 90 days in any 365-day period.
- How long you can stay
- Up to 90 days in any 365-day period.
- What you need
- Ordinary passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry to Peru
- Entry is recorded digitally at international airports (virtual Tarjeta Andina de Migración, TAM); if entering by land, make sure your passport is stamped
- Immigration/customs may ask for a return or onward ticket, accommodation details and proof of sufficient funds
- Good to know
- United States ordinary passport holders are visa-exempt for tourism in Peru (Peru's Foreign Ministry table, PDF dated 16 Jul 2026, legal basis D.S. N° 23-95-RE). The table marks the tourist term as '90*', defined as '90 days, extendable once for an equal period, within a period of 365 days counted from the first entry into national territory'. So the automatic allowance is 90 days, and one extension of up to 90 more days (180 total) within the 365 days that start on your first entry is possible; we model the stricter 90 days per 365-day window. The extension is applied for with Migraciones while your stay is still valid; we did not find a current Migraciones page giving the fee and procedure for non-Andean tourists, so check with Migraciones. Business visits that are not visa-exempt in the table need a business visa. Passport validity: the Embassy of Peru in Singapore's visa FAQ (gob.pe, 22 Mar 2026) says the passport 'must have a minimum of 6 months validity from the date of entry to Peru'; the UK FCDO and Global Affairs Canada travel advice say the same. Air arrivals are not stamped; Migraciones records entry digitally (virtual TAM) and you can check your authorised stay online at Migraciones; land arrivals must get an entry stamp (FCDO, Global Affairs Canada). Global Affairs Canada says officials may ask for a return/onward ticket, proof of accommodation and proof of funds, and that overstaying incurs a fine for each day, payable on exit. Law: Decreto Legislativo 1350 (Migraciones) as amended by D.Leg. 1582 (El Peruano) sets the tourist stay at 'up to 183 calendar days, cumulative over a 365-day period counted from the first regular entry', or the shorter term fixed in a visa-waiver agreement; where less than 183 days is granted an extension can be granted up to that limit unless the agreement sets a lower term or forbids extension. Tourist status does not allow paid work.
Is your passport valid long enough?
The rule: Ordinary passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry to Peru
These dates stay in your browser. They aren't saved or sent anywhere. Six months from arrival, or after you leave? How the rules compare
