Qatar entry requirements for US citizens

Short answerUS citizens can get a visa on arrival in Qatar. Up to 90 days per visit.
- How long you can stay
- Up to 90 days per visit.
- What you need
- US passport (any type, including emergency/temporary) valid for at least 3 months on entry (MOI); travel documents are not accepted. Note: GOV.UK, Auswärtiges Amt, France Diplomatie, Canada and NZ advise at least 6 months — carry 6 months to be safe with airlines
- Valid round-trip ticket
- A clear address in Qatar
- Fee of US$21 (QAR 76), paid on first entry only
- Health insurance from an insurance company accredited by Qatar's Ministry of Public Health (MOI lists it as a condition of the on-arrival visa; GOV.UK/Auswärtiges Amt describe it as mandatory for stays over 30 days)
- Good to know
- Qatar MOI page '90-days Visa-free Entry for US Citizens': 'U.S. citizens can now obtain a visa valid for two years or until the passport expires (whichever comes first), with the possibility of multiple entries, each allowing a stay of up to 90 days.' Fee: '$21 USD (equivalent to 76 Qatari Riyals) — paid upon first entry only.' Passport valid at least 3 months at entry; 'There is no waiting period required between visits'; all US passport types accepted, but 'Entry with travel documents is not permitted'. Extra requirements: valid round-trip ticket and a clear address within Qatar. It can be pre-registered on the Hayya platform (category 'Visa-Free for US Citizens (F1)'; Hayya FAQ: 'F1 is a multiple-entry visa. US citizens can stay for up to 90 days upon each visit' and entry is possible 'within 2 years from the date of their Visa-Free (F1) approval') or obtained on arrival. First entry through normal passport counters; later entries can use e-gates. Classified here as visa_on_arrival because, despite the 'visa-free' label, a fee-bearing two-year visa is issued at the border on first entry. The US also appears on MOI's older 30-day list; the US-specific page is the more specific, newer rule and is the one applied. No cumulative cap across visits is stated. Conflict noted: MOI requires passport validity of 3 months, but several travellers' governments (GOV.UK, Auswärtiges Amt, France, Canada, NZ) say 6 months; MOI is the controlling authority, documentsNeeded flags both. Health insurance: MOI lists 'Health insurance from an accredited insurance company' as a condition of every on-arrival category and its Entry Permits page says 'A valid health insurance policy from insurance companies registered with the Ministry of Public Health is required to enter Qatar', while GOV.UK and Auswärtiges Amt say it is compulsory for stays over 30 days (GOV.UK: standard premium QAR 50 per person per month). VisitQatar notes 'Visa-free entry is now the new term defining previously visa on arrival. Nothing changed except the name.' Entry is at the discretion of the border officer.
Is your passport valid long enough?
The rule: US passport (any type, including emergency/temporary) valid for at least 3 months on entry (MOI); travel documents are not accepted. Note: GOV.UK, Auswärtiges Amt, France Diplomatie, Canada and NZ advise at least 6 months — carry 6 months to be safe with airlines
