Can you bring fresh fruit or produce to Maldives?
Short answer
Depends on specifics
Fresh produce
depends on specificsUnder the Plant Quarantine Regulation, "all plants, parts of plants, plant products" must be imported in accordance with the regulation (§3); plants and seeds brought for planting or ornamental purposes must be disease-free, clean of sand and water, correctly packed and labelled, and accompany a phytosanitary certificate. The regulation states that "raw flora and bouquets and garlands made from fresh flora weighing less than 500 grams may be imported without a phytosanitary certificate". Prohibited outright (§9): "all parts of Maldivian coconut trees (cocos nucifera) except timber", any plant prohibited by other law, and FAO-listed invasive species.
This is a 2008 regulation aimed at plant imports generally; it does not say how a traveller's personal luggage is treated, and it says nothing specific about fresh fruit or vegetables brought as food. Whether it has since been amended was not checked. Treat live plants, seeds and unusual plant material as needing prior approval from the Plant and Animal Quarantine Unit and contact MFDA before bringing any.
Also covers: plants, seeds, flowers, cut flowers, live plants, planting seeds, coconut
