Can you bring cash to Maldives?

Short answer
Allowed, must be declared

  • Cash

    allowed, must be declared

Passengers carrying currency over US$10,000 use the red channel to declare it: the airport operator's customs page lists "currency over $10,000" among goods to declare at Customs.

Press reports say the threshold was lowered from US$20,000 to US$10,000 in January 2021 and stems from the Prevention of Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism Act (Law No. 10/2014), covering any currency including rufiyaa; the law itself and whether the figure is 'more than' or 'at least' US$10,000 were not read on an official page. There is no cap on how much foreign currency you may bring in, only the declaration duty.

Also covers: cash, currency, money, foreign currency, us dollars
