Can you bring cash to Cambodia?
Short answer
Allowed, declaration may be required
Cash
allowed, declaration may be requiredBringing in cash worth USD 10,000 or more (or the equivalent in other currencies) must be declared. Taking USD 10,000 or more out needs prior permission from the central bank and related authorities.
Japan MOFA (updated 25 Mar 2025), 外貨申告: '1万米ドル相当額以上の現金の持ち込みは申告が必要です' (cash of USD 10,000 equivalent or more must be declared on entry) and '1万米ドル相当額以上の現金を国外に持ち出す場合には、中央銀行および関係機関から事前に持ち出し許可を得る必要があります' (to take USD 10,000 or more out, get prior export permission from the central bank and relevant agencies). Declarations are made in the customs section of the Cambodia e-Arrival. Possible conflict: the airport operator's pages (Cambodia Airports, not a government source, not cited) word the threshold as sums 'over US$10,000' and say an export permit from the National Bank of Cambodia is needed only if the cash was not declared on entry. We follow the stricter reading (declare at USD 10,000 or more). The Cambodian customs site (customs.gov.kh) was unreachable, so the national text could not be read directly.
