Can you bring cash to Vietnam?

Short answer
Allowed, must be declared

  • Cash

    allowed, must be declared

Cash/currency above the threshold must be declared to border-gate customs on arrival or departure; amounts at or below the threshold need no declaration.

Threshold set under State Bank of Vietnam Circular No. 15/2011/TT-NHNN. Declaration is also required below the threshold if the traveler intends to deposit foreign currency exceeding USD 5,000 into a Vietnamese bank account, since the stamped declaration form is needed as supporting documentation for the bank. Traveler's checks, bank/payment cards, and securities are not subject to this cash threshold.

Also covers: cash, currency, money, foreign currency, Vietnamese dong
