Cannabis
prohibitedChina maintains zero tolerance for marijuana with no recreational or medical exception. Under the Criminal Law, smuggling, trafficking, transporting or manufacturing narcotic drugs is a criminal offense regardless of quantity (Art. 347), and unauthorized possession above threshold quantities carries additional criminal penalties (Art. 348).

CBD
prohibitedSince September 1, 2024, China regulates cannabidiol (CBD) as a Category II precursor chemical requiring import/export licensing (joint announcement by China's NMPA, customs authority GACC, and other ministries); there is no personal-use import pathway for travelers, and unlicensed CBD products are treated as contraband at the border regardless of THC content or legality abroad.
