Can you bring medication to Taiwan?
Short answer
Controlled medication: depends on specifics · Prescription medication: allowed, within limits
Controlled medication
depends on specificsFor personal Schedule 1-3 controlled drugs (examples the Ministry gives: sleeping pills like zolpidem, triazolam, flunitrazepam, and opioids like morphine and fentanyl), "the amount cannot exceed that on the prescription," a medical institution certificate or a diagnostic certificate/prescription copy from the attending physician is required, and the total is capped at a 6-month supply. For Schedule 1-3 controlled drugs specifically, travelers may send TFDA "a declaration and medical diagnostic certificate to apply for a certification document" in advance under Article 18 of the Enforcement Rules for the Controlled Drugs Act.
The Ministry's own guidance does not name ADHD stimulants (methylphenidate/Ritalin, amphetamine-class drugs like Adderall or Vyvanse) specifically — whether they fall under this controlled-drug process or a different one wasn't confirmed in this pass, so don't assume either way; check with TFDA before travelling with any stimulant medication. Controlled drugs must be carried on the person at all times and cannot be sent by mail or courier.
Also covers: controlled substance, narcotic medication, psychotropic medication, adderall, amphetamine, vyvanse, lisdexamfetamine, ritalin, methylphenidate, xanax, alprazolam, sleeping pills, zolpidem, codeine

Prescription medication
allowed, within limitsNon-prescription (OTC) medicine: "maximum 12 units per type, 36 total units combined" (bottles/boxes/tubes as packaged). Prescription medicine without a doctor's note or prescription copy: "restricted to a 2-month supply." Prescription medicine with a doctor's note/prescription copy: up to a "maximum 6-month supply," not exceeding the documented reasonable dose.
Must be in original packaging and for personal use only — reselling imported personal medication draws a fine of NT$30,000 to NT$2,000,000 under Pharmaceutical Affairs Act Arts. 27 and 92. Narcotic/psychotropic controlled medications follow a stricter, separate rule — see the controlled-medication entry for Taiwan.
Also covers: medication, prescription medicine, medicine, otc medicine
