Can you bring fresh fruit or produce to Australia?

Short answer
Prohibited

  • Fresh produce

    prohibited

Official traveller advice: "do not carry any fresh fruit or vegetables, plants, seeds, meat and animal or wood products" into Australia — for faster border clearance, travellers are told simply not to bring these. Most live plants require a Department-issued import permit; seeds must be a permitted species, phytosanitary-certified, and free of contamination, or they will be exported/destroyed. Declare any risk goods on arrival or dispose of them in terminal bins. Providing false/misleading declarations or failing to comply with a biosecurity officer's directions can draw an infringement notice of up to AUD 6,600, civil penalty proceedings, or criminal prosecution, and can lead to visa cancellation and a re-entry ban of up to 3 years.
