Can you bring tobacco or cigarettes to Australia?

Short answer
Allowed, within limits

  • Tobacco

    allowed, within limits

25 cigarettes or 25 grams of tobacco in any form duty-free per traveller aged 18 or over; no concession for travellers under 18. Most tobacco products (cigarettes, molasses tobacco, heat-not-burn, loose-leaf) are otherwise classed as prohibited imports beyond the personal concession.

No permit is needed to bring tobacco products as a traveller within the concession. Exceeding the limit means duty/tax applies to all tobacco carried, not just the excess.

    Also covers: tobacco, cigarettes, cigars
