Good to know
The Dominican Foreign Ministry (MIREX) visa-requirements tool, queried for Argentina / ordinary passport / tourist visa (TS), answers '¿Requiere visa? NO'. UK and Canadian government advice both say tourists can visit visa-free for up to 30 days. Stay: the Dirección General de Migración (DGM) service page 'Prórroga de estadía para turistas' (migracion.gob.do/servicio/prorroga-de-estadia/) says tourists are allowed '30 días establecidos para los turistas' and that a stay of more than 30 days can be authorised 'a través de una prórroga extensible hasta 120 días'. Extension: apply online at the DGM portal (personal.migracion.gob.do / servicios.migracion.gob.do) with a copy of the passport data page, the stamp/date of last entry, a return air ticket, proof of own funds and a medical certificate; processing three working days; the application is free but the stay fee is charged: RD$3,500 for 30–90 days and RD$5,600 for 90–120 days, payable online or at the airport. Overstay: DGM's 'Servicio de cálculo y pago de tasas de estadía' says foreigners who exceed their authorised stay regularise it on departure by paying the stay fee (table: 30–90 days RD$3,500; 3–9 months RD$5,600; 9–12 months RD$7,000; rising to RD$98,000 for 10 years plus RD$7,000 per extra year), calculated at stayfee.migracion.gob.do. DGM's FAQ adds that if the stay fee is paid in advance at DGM you then have 30 days to leave. Canada's travel advice (travel.gc.ca, updated 26 May 2026) says to request the extension before the tourist card expires and that overstayers 'could be deported or refused re-entry'. Arrival form: DGM states the electronic E-Ticket (eticket.migracion.gob.do) is mandatory for every passenger on entry and on exit (combined migration and customs declaration, laws 285-04, 115-17, 72-02 and 226-06); UK advice says it can be completed up to 7 days before arrival and gives a QR code. Tourist card: the tax authority DGII says foreigners entering without a consular visa must have a Tourist Card (US$10, or €10 at sea/land ports only), with exemptions for nationals covered by bilateral agreements ratified by Congress; for air arrivals its cost is included in the airline ticket. The MIREX tool does not say whether this nationality is card-exempt. UK and Canadian advice both say you may be asked for proof of onward/return travel; Canada adds proof of adequate funds and your address in the country. Passport: under DGM's measure announced 2 December 2025 (memorandum continuing Resolución DGM-01-2024 of 31 May 2024), citizens of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, the USA, 'Inglaterra' and EU countries travelling exclusively for tourism need a passport valid only for the length of their stay and departure, instead of the 6-month minimum 'que usualmente se exige'. This applies from 1 Dec 2025 to 31 Dec 2026 — re-check for travel in 2027.
