Can you bring medication to Colombia?

Short answer
Depends on specifics

  • Prescription medication

    depends on specifics

No Colombian traveller allowance found. Carry personal quantities in original containers with a copy of your prescription; check legality yourself.

No primary Colombian rule specific to travellers' personal medication was found (DIAN, INVIMA and the Fondo Nacional de Estupefacientes pages searched). Customs law treats 'efectos personales' — new or used articles a traveller may need for personal use during the trip — as outside the duty-free quota (Decreto 1165 de 2019, Art. 3 definition, as modified by Decreto 360 de 2021), but does not mention medicines. The UK government's Colombia travel advice says: 'If you take prescription medication, you will be responsible for determining its legality in Colombia. Always keep your medication in the original container, bring sufficient quantities ..., pack your medication in your carry-on luggage and carry a copy of your prescriptions', and that Colombian prescriptions 'must be written in Spanish, in the metric system and using the medicine's generic name'. travel.gc.ca adds that some prescription medicines are unavailable in Colombia and adrenaline auto-injectors are not sold there.
