Can you bring cannabis or CBD to South Korea?

Short answer
Cannabis: prohibited · CBD: prohibited

  • Cannabis

    prohibited

Marijuana-related offenses under the Narcotics Control Act carry up to 5 years' imprisonment or a fine of up to KRW 50 million.

The Korea Customs Service has publicly warned that bringing in marijuana-related products without Ministry of Food and Drug Safety approval is punishable under the Narcotics Control Act — with penalties applying even to gifts from someone abroad or to use that occurred entirely outside Korea, regardless of home-country legality or a foreign prescription.

Also covers: cannabis, marijuana, weed, thc

  • CBD

    prohibited

The Korea Customs Service explicitly names CBD, CBN and THC together in its warning: products labeled or marketed with any of these cannabinoids brought in without prior Ministry of Food and Drug Safety approval are subject to Narcotics Control Act penalties, including for gifts and regardless of a foreign prescription. Korea does run a general controlled-substance entry-permit process (MFDS, in force since 2009), but travelers should not assume a low-THC or hemp label creates an exception.

Also covers: cbd, cbd oil, hemp extract
