Can you bring tobacco or cigarettes to Peru?

Short answer
Allowed, within limits

  • Tobacco

    allowed, within limits

Travellers over 18: 20 packs of cigarettes, or 50 cigars, or 250 g of cut/loose smoking tobacco, duty-free.

SUNAT's duty-free list: 'Cajetillas de cigarrillos (20 unidades). Cigarros puros (50 unidades) o tabaco picado o en hierbas para fumar (250 gramos)', only for over-18s. SUNAT does not state the number of cigarettes per pack. The 2017 SUNAT declaration form shows the three as alternatives ('o'). Undeclared goods are seized; to recover them you pay the duties plus a fine of 50% of their customs value (SUNAT). Goods beyond the free list are taxed at a single 12% rate up to US$1,000 per trip (max US$3,000 per calendar year, per SUNAT's 'Ingresar equipaje al país' page); above that, normal import duties apply.

Also covers: tobacco, cigarettes, cigars, rolling tobacco, cigarillos
