Can you bring cash to New Zealand?
Short answer
Allowed, must be declared
Cash
allowed, must be declaredA Border Cash Report is mandatory when carrying NZ$10,000 or more in cash (or foreign-currency equivalent) into or out of New Zealand.
"Cash" covers physical currency, travellers' cheques, cheques, money/postal orders, bearer bonds, bills of exchange, promissory notes, and other instruments prescribed under the Anti-Money Laundering Act 2009. The report can be filed online (within 72 hours of travel) or on the paper NZCS 337 form at the border. There is no cap on how much cash may be carried — this is a reporting obligation, not a fee — but failing to declare is a criminal offence that can lead to fines, imprisonment, and seizure of the cash.
Also covers: cash, currency, money, banknotes
