Can you bring cash to Argentina?

Short answer
Allowed, declaration may be required

  • Cash

    allowed, declaration may be required

Entering with cash or monetary instruments (foreign or Argentine currency) worth USD 10,000 or more must be declared to customs on form OM 2249A. For under-16s the limit is USD 5,000. Amounts above USD 10,000 can only leave Argentina by bank transfer.

ARCA 'Ingreso y egreso de valores': amounts under USD 10,000 may be brought in freely; higher amounts need a special declaration (OM 2249A). ARCA 'Régimen de equipaje' says to declare when 'igual o superior al equivalente a USD 10.000'. Conversion uses the Banco de la Nación buying rate at close of the previous business day. Cross-check: gov.uk Argentina advice says declare cash/travellers cheques over USD 10,000; Spain MFA says the same applies on entry and exit.

Also covers: cash, money, currency, dollars, euros, travellers cheques, monetary instruments, pesos
