Can you bring medication to Argentina?
Short answer
Depends on specifics
Controlled medication
depends on specificsCarry a legalised medical prescription. Under the Mercosur rule applied in Argentina, it must show your name and address; the medicine, active ingredient, strength, form, quantity and dosage; and the date, name, address, signature and registration of the prescriber. It must be authorised by the health authority. Patients in transit present this document to health or police authorities at the airport or border.
Source: argentina.gob.ar Derecho Fácil summary of Mercosur GMC Resolution 66/2000, which ANMAT applies. It covers travel between Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela, and no official page was found on how travellers from outside Mercosur are treated, so confirm with ANMAT before travelling. ARCA lists 'Estupefacientes' as prohibited in baggage. ANMAT's control lists include methadone, hydrocodone and hydromorphone (narcotics, Ley 17.818) and amphetamine, alprazolam, clonazepam, diazepam and lorazepam (psychotropics, Ley 19.303). Methylphenidate was not checked. Medicines not registered in Argentina may need an ANMAT exceptional-access (RAEM-NR) authorisation; that procedure is for imports and may not cover a traveller's own supply.
If you're only changing planes here Applies in transit too
If you're in transit through Argentina with medicine containing narcotic or psychotropic substances, carry a legal document with your name and address, the medicine, its active ingredient, strength, form, quantity and dosage, and your doctor's name, address, registration and signature. Show it to the health or police authorities at the airport or border.
