Can you bring cash to Kenya?

Short answer
Allowed, must be declared

  • Cash

    allowed, must be declared

Kenya Revenue Authority passenger-clearance guidance requires declaring currency of USD 10,000 or more (or equivalent) on the Passenger Declaration Form (F88) on arrival

A separate, older Central Bank of Kenya regulation (Legal Notice No. 118 of 1998, still in force and unamended) sets a lower threshold — currency exceeding KSh 500,000 or the equivalent of USD 5,000 must be declared to a Customs Officer on Form CBK/C.D./1. The two official sources do not agree on the figure; to stay on the safe side, declare at the lower USD 5,000 threshold if in doubt.
