Can you bring cash to Ghana?

Allowed, declaration may be required
Cash
allowed, declaration may be requiredYou can carry up to US$10,000 (or the equivalent in other currencies and monetary instruments) without declaring it. Above that, declare the full amount on the Foreign Currency Declaration Form (FX-5) from the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, giving the source and purpose of the funds. Inbound travellers carrying more than US$10,000 must also present proof that they declared it at their port of origin or departure. Outbound travellers with more than US$50,000 must also attach endorsed forex bureau receipts or bank slips showing how the currency was obtained. Monetary instruments include coins, cash, traveller's cheques, personal and cashier's cheques, bearer shares and bonds, money orders, gold, silver, precious stones and prepaid wallets.
Failing to declare, a false declaration, or missing documents can lead to immediate seizure of the undeclared amount, fines or criminal prosecution. Foreign currency may not be sent by mail or cargo; funds sent that way are confiscated. These rules took effect on 1 September 2025.
