Can you bring a weapon to India?

Short answer
Prohibited

  • Weapons

    prohibited

Import of firearms is prohibited. Import of cartridges/ammunition in excess of 50 rounds is also prohibited. A narrow exception exists for 0.177 bore air guns and air pistols, which may be imported free of restriction only by shooters registered with a Rifle Club or a District/State/National Rifle Association.

Not a realistic route for an ordinary tourist — the air-gun exception requires registered-shooter status with a recognised Indian rifle association, not something a visiting traveler is likely to hold.

Also covers: weapons, firearms, guns, ammunition
