Can you bring kratom to New Zealand?

Short answer
Depends on specifics

The official rule for New Zealand below names kratom. The same rule also covers the other medicines it lists, so read the conditions carefully.

  • Kratom

    depends on specifics

Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) is a prescription medicine in New Zealand, and it isn't allowed in herbal remedies or dietary supplements. Medsafe says kratom for personal use that's found at the border is referred to Medsafe, and released only on the authority of a medical practitioner, who takes responsibility for it.

Kratom isn't approved for any kind of medical use in New Zealand. Without a doctor's authority, Medsafe won't release it.

Also covers: kratom, mitragyna speciosa, mitragynine
