Can you bring medication to Ecuador?

Short answer
Allowed, within limits

  • Prescription medication

    allowed, within limits

Medicines for personal use count as duty-free personal effects if they come with a prescription (from Ecuador or abroad). Food supplements: up to 8 kg.

SENAE personal-effects list: 'Medicamentos, vitaminas y suplementos alimenticios. Para el caso de medicamentos deberán estar acompañados con su respectiva prescripción médica nacional o extranjera. Para el caso de suplementos alimenticios, máximo 8 Kg.' The list does not set a maximum quantity of medicine; carry only what matches your prescription. Medicines containing controlled (narcotic or psychotropic) substances are regulated by ARCSA under the drug-control law — see the separate controlled-medication entry, which we have not been able to verify. Anything above an allowance, or not on SENAE's personal-effects list, is a 'bien tributable': declare it on the online Formulario de Registro Aduanero (FRA) and pay duties; taxable goods up to USD 2,000 can be cleared in the arrivals hall, above that they must go through a formal import. Goods not otherwise listed that have no volume/quantity restriction still count as personal effects up to USD 500 in total.
