Can you bring cash to Turkey?
Short answer
Depends on specifics
Cash
depends on specificsNo mandatory threshold requires travelers to declare cash brought into Türkiye. Declaration is voluntary, but if made must be complete and accurate. Cash representing personal debts, gifts, dowries, inheritances, immigrants' assets, foreign loans, or uncut-diamond export proceeds may not be physically carried in — it must be transferred via a bank.
If customs officers ask a traveler to explain the amount or source of cash carried and the traveler gives no explanation, or a false/misleading one, the undisclosed amount is seized and a 10% administrative fine is applied, with the case referred to the public prosecutor and Türkiye's Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK). This is Türkiye's rule for cash brought INTO the country; a separate, stricter rule applies to cash taken OUT of Türkiye (not researched in this pass — see data/UNVERIFIED/TODO.md).
