Can you bring Adderall to the United Arab Emirates?
Short answer
Depends on specifics
The official rule for the United Arab Emirates below names Adderall. The same rule also covers the other medicines it lists, so read the conditions carefully.
Controlled medication
depends on specificsAll of the following are listed by name on the UAE's official controlled/semi-controlled medicines schedule and are allowed for personal use ONLY with supporting documents, up to a maximum 3-month supply: amphetamine (Adderall), lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse), methylphenidate (Ritalin) — Psychotropic Schedule II; alprazolam (Xanax), diazepam (Valium), clonazepam (Klonopin) — Psychotropic Schedule IV / 'CD'; codeine, oxycodone — Narcotic Schedule I/II; tramadol — 'CD'. None of these is flatly prohibited. Travelers must carry BOTH a dated, stamped prescription (issued within 3 months) AND an attested medical report (issued within 1 year) naming the medicine, dose, and treatment duration.
The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) — which took over the Ministry of Health and Prevention's (MOHAP) controlled-medicines functions on 29 Dec 2025 under Federal Decree-Law No. 38 of 2024 — offers an optional electronic pre-approval permit before travel; it is NOT strictly mandatory, and travelers may instead simply declare the medicine with prescription + medical report at the port of entry. This row corrects the common assumption (from older secondary press reporting) that these drugs are outright banned; per EDE's own current list they are not, but the documentation bar (prescription AND medical report, not just prescription alone) is stricter than most countries. This list is dated 15/09/2022 by EDE/MOHAP but remains the current published schedule as of Sept 2026; it explicitly states non-inclusion of a substance doesn't mean it's uncontrolled, so travelers with any other controlled medication should verify against EDE directly. MOHAP's own domain (mohap.gov.ae) was unreachable during this research (connection resets), so EDE.gov.ae — confirmed as the current regulator via the Federal Decree-Law — was used instead.
