In short

Wrong EES record from a crossing in Switzerland — a missing exit or a false overstay? You have the right to get it corrected. Here's who to write to, and a letter you can send.

Who to contact

State Secretariat for Migration (SEM)

Handles requests to see or correct EES data

Full contact details, data protection officer and complaints

State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) — the data controller that handles requests to access, correct, complete or delete your EES record. Supervisory authority: the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC / EDÖB), which publishes ready-made EES request forms addressed to SEM. Switzerland is a Schengen-associated state, not an EU member, and applies the EES Regulation through its Schengen association.

Send the request by registered post to Staatssekretariat für Migration, Datenschutzberater, Quellenweg 6, CH-3003 Bern-Wabern, or by email to dsbo@sem.admin.ch, with a copy of a valid identity document. The FDPIC provides official correction, completion, access and deletion request forms (Word) in English, German, French and Italian.

Not verified per country — the authority's site states accepted languages; we provide the template in German and English.

The procedure

  1. Gather your proof

Boarding passes, tickets, accommodation and payment records showing where you were.
  2. Fill in a letter

Use a template below: say which record is wrong and what the correct facts are.
  3. Send it

To the authority above — or to any other EES country if that's easier. You don't have to use Switzerland.
  4. Note the date

They must reply within 45 days. No answer or a refusal? You can complain to the data protection authority.
If they refuse or don't answer

Action or complaint before the competent authorities or courts (Art. 54), including when the 45-day deadline passes unanswered; the supervisory authority's assistance remains available throughout (Art. 54(2)).
