Can you bring alcohol to Jordan?

Short answer
Allowed, within limits

  • Alcohol

    allowed, within limits

Up to 1 litre of alcohol duty-free per traveller; more than 1 litre is subject to customs duty.

German Foreign Office (Stand 09.10.2026): 'Bis zu 1 l Alkohol ... dürfen zollfrei mitgeführt werden.' Cross-checked with Japan MOFA (updated 22 Apr 2026): bringing more than 1 litre of alcohol into Jordan incurs duty; if you enter overland with more than 1 litre and plan to take it out later by air, you pay a cash deposit (JOD only) at the border, refunded when customs checks the alcohol on departure. Jordan Customs' own site (customs.gov.jo) was IP-blocked from our environment, so the controlling customs text was not read. Public drinking is banned outside some hotels and restaurants (France Diplomatie).

Also covers: alcohol, wine, beer, spirits, liquor, whisky, vodka, arak
